Lesson from a five year old

For the last two mornings Beans has had a hard time getting up and getting ready for school.  In fact, this is the first time she’s ever said that she doesn’t want to go to school any more.  It’s sad when a preschooler doesn’t want to go…. I know that she loves school – it’s just the early start time that’s hard on her.

This evening The Boy was telling the family about his after-school program.  When they had finished their work they went into the cafeteria with Beans’ teacher and they were allowed to beat each other pool noodles.  Beans promptly burst into tears and cried that she didn’t have any fun at school.

I tried to reason with her that she does indeed have fun at school.  She wasn’t having any of it and continued to cry.  Trying to distract her I asked if she would please say the prayer before dinner.  She quickly bowed her head and said (with tears still in her voice), “Dear Jesus, Thank you for the food.  Thank you for to go to school.  Amen.”
